Wow. Survive the Night is an incredible suspense book. The book is set in 1991, in a car, with two strangers traveling through the night to Ohio. Charlie, named after a Hitchcock heroine, is in a car with Josh Baxter, a man she met at her college ride board. Or is he the Campus Killer who murdered her roommate? Add to the fact that Charlie has a unique way of dealing with trauma and stress, she replaces real life with an hallucination. Is she really seeing the things happening in the car? Or is that her mind playing tricks on her? Not even Charlie is certain. The suspense builds for Charlie and the reader as the long drive to Ohio unfolds.
This book is full of twists and turns that keeps the reader engaged and guessing. As soon as you think you’ve figured out the big mystery, another clue is revealed that changes the landscape and puts you back at square one. Though the first few chapters are a slow burn, once you are a quarter of the way through the book, everything picks up and you just can’t put the book down until you know the answers. The characters are creepy, enthralling, infuriating, and real. Sager pulls together a story that seems improbable until you begin reading it.
